Pembroke South Haven Gas Pipeline – Horizontal Directional Drill

At 3,005 metres drilling length, the horizontal directional drill (HDD) forming part of the Pembroke South Haven Gas Pipeline represented the longest HDD in Europe (the longest ever achieved globally being 3,150m). Such long drills present considerable engineering challenges such as delivering the force to the drilling tools through the drill string and maintaining drill fluid circulation throughout the drilling operations.
